Modena Jenkins, LMSW

In-Home Family Therapist

Dena’s experience in social services began 23 years ago as a foster parent for high-needs children from the Wichita area. After seven years of fostering children, she began a child welfare career and formal education. Over the past two decades, Dena has held a number of positions while employed at Lutheran Social Services and Youthville. She has volunteered as a loss and grief facilitator at a local center for children. After achieving an undergraduate degree, Dena worked as a trauma specialist at the Trauma Recovery Center, where she developed valuable skills to successfully help caregivers manage the conduct of children displaying trauma-related behaviors. After achieving her Graduate’s degree in social work, Dena was the memory care coordinator at an assisted living community where she used the behavior-based ergonomic therapy (BBET) model to reduce anxiety and combative behaviors while increasing the pleasure of life for residents. Dena enjoys working with children ages 6+ that are struggling with mood and behavior problems. She has experience helping resource families maintain a child in placement through hard times. When helping families provide loving and nurturing homes for children, Dena’s approach is to identify everyone’s strengths and build on them as a team.
